Matching objects with units

This metric units of length card sort contains cards with photos of objects and others with one of the measurements metre, millimetre, centimetre or kilometre on them. Students need to decide which unit of length would be best used to measure the length of the object in the picture.

They can be used in two possible ways. The cards can be cut out individually for matching activities, such as snap or pairs, or they can be cut out to make dominoes or loop cards.

Students may not agree and can be asked to explain their choices. The task could be extended to estimation of the lengths.
