A maths activity with a Christmas theme. Students use their problem-solving skills and knowledge of the surface area of solids to calculate the cost of wrapping paper needed to wrap Christmas presents for a local charity.
The worksheet gives all information needed, including the price, size and shape of each gift. There are extension questions and all answers are given.
This activity is suitable for KS3 and KS4. Older students could be asked to explain what assumptions have been made during the problem-solving process, such as no overlapping paper, and how this would affect the price in real life.
