Tiling a bathroom floor

This units activity is an investigation into the number of tiles needed to cover a floor, with measurements given in centimetres and metres, so students need to convert between the two. The task becomes more difficult as extra constraints are put on the problem.
Answers are given at two levels. At the simple level, the number of tiles is rounded up to the nearest whole number. At the extension level, students will think about how to use tiles most effectively to calculate the minimum number of tiles possible.

This will be really useful for my S1 class as I have one boy who usually finishes way ahead of the rest. I'm hoping he will not get the right answer the first time on the extension so he learns to think before he writes!
