A set of tips and ideas for teaching prefixes and suffixes. Activities include making word towers out of unifix cubes, playing a tiddly winks game, racing against the clock to list as many words as possible, and playing a prefix/suffix version of 'fortunately, unfortunately.'

The ideas are adaptable for the content in KS1 and KS2.

I used Beat the Clock with Year 7 students to introduce prefixes and suffixes into my spelling program. I had students paste in a list of common prefixes and suffixes to use as an ongoing reference into the back of their exercise books (all reference material gets pasted into the back for quick access).

I loved the tiddly wink idea in particular and made me think you could also do a similar idea with skittles. Thank you
