A-level Spanish reading: MADO 2022
This A-level Spanish language text and Spanish translation on the Madrid Pride festival (Madrid Orgullo, or MADO) makes an original and inclusive way of working on the theme of artistic culture in Spain (for the AQA specification) or ‘Los festivals y las tradiciones’ (for the Edexcel specification). It is perfect for use in February (LGBT+ History Month) or June (Pride Month).
Students put the events of the festival into the correct order by identifying key phrases in the reading text. Alternatively, the teacher can read the text out loud to enable students to reorder the paragraphs.
Students can then translate the text from Spanish to English.

El primer día de julio comenzó el Orgullo de Barrio, donde se realizaron numerosos actos y eventos en locales en el barrio de Chueca. Fue el pistoletazo de salida del MADO. Este barrio es muy conocido en Madrid por sus calles estrechas, llenas de restaurantes, terrazas, cafeterías, bares y tiendas. Además, se dice que su plaza, la plaza de Chueca, se ha convertido en el epicentro LGBTIQ+ por excelencia.
