A colourful introduction to the Mexican Day of the Dead festival for key stage 3 students.

The PowerPoint begins with the opening sequence of the James Bond film Spectre, showing the parade in Mexico City, then explores how this differs from traditional celebrations in village cemeteries. Through a series of images and a game of 'Quiz, quiz, trade', students learn key vocabulary relating to the festival.

In the Word document, they review the vocabulary in a word search and crossword before using it to describe pictures of Día de Muertos festivities.

An extract from the PowerPoint:

The celebrations usually take place in village cemeteries. They are a mixture of Catholic and Aztec traditions.

On 2 November, people clean the graves, light candles and spend the evening at the cemetery, eating and playing music.
