La inmigración en los últimos años
A key stage 5 speaking and translation resource on the topic of immigration in Spain.
Students start by ranking reasons for moving to another country in order of importance. They then hold a debate on the problems and benefits associated with immigration. Next, they translate sentences about immigration issues from Spanish to English and suggest possible solutions. Finally, they respond to an exam-style speaking card on the sub-theme of 'La inmigración en el mundo hispanohablante'.
The speaking card was designed for the AQA A-level, but the ranking activity, debate and sentences for translation are suitable for any exam board.
An extract from the translation task:
3. El país que acoge a los inmigrantes tiene una capacidad limitada de servicios públicos que puede ofrecer.
4. Los medios de comunicación presentan a los inmigrantes o bien como víctimas o bien como delincuentes, lo que crea un clima de hostilidad hacia ellos por parte de la población del país al que emigran.
