Earthquakes
Browse this collection of tried and tested resources for your KS3 geography and GCSE lessons on earthquakes. Simply filter by key stage to find the right resources for your class.
In this collection, you'll find lessons and classroom activities that introduce students to tectonic hazards and earthquakes, including the different plate boundaries, movements in the earth’s crust and the causes of the earthquakes. There are card sorts, matching activities and Plate tectonic taboo to help students learn and understand key terminology, including the difference between the epicentre and the focus of an earthquake.
The collection also features resources and activities on the effects of earthquakes, as well as preparing for and responding to them. Case study templates help students identify the primary effects and secondary effects, evaluate the responses and compare earthquakes in LICs, NEEs and HICs. Resources also cover how earthquakes are measured, including using seismometers, comparing different magnitude earthquakes and the differences between the Mercalli and Richter scales.
Looking for more resources on tectonic hazards? Head to our Hazardous earth collection for an overview of this physical geography topic, as well as resource collections on natural disasters, plate tectonics, volcanoes and tsunamis.
