This EGAP activity raises students' awareness of how noun phrases can be used to provide extra detail in good academic writing. It gives controlled and semi-controlled practice.

It uses simple examples from a wide range of disciplines: economics, archaeology, history, law, philosophy and biology.

The example from the worksheet:

Emerging markets are considered to be volatile.
