GCSE English Literature retrieval pyramids resource
Specifically designed to support students studying Macbeth by William Shakespeare, An inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley and A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, this comprehensive set of retrieval activities helps to reinforce knowledge about the texts ahead of assessments or exams.
Retrieval has been shown through a range of recent educational studies to support deeper learning capacity and the ability to move knowledge from the short term memory to the long term memory, therefore better supporting students as they prepare for exams or assessments.
How to use this resource
Each slide contains a pyramid shape of retrieval activities for students to dip into or complete as part of a lesson, starter, plenary or homework activity. The activities on each slide relate to a particular aspect of a text, such as ambition in Macbeth or family in A Christmas Carol, broadening students' exploration of key themes, authorial methods and characters.
The activities on each text can bring a competitive element to class, with points in timed conditions available. This can help focus students on developing their analytical writing at pace, to support responses in exam conditions.
