Developing dictionary skills
A French skills lesson to teach beginners how to use a bilingual dictionary effectively. The lesson starts with a questionnaire to assess how much students know about how a dictionary is organised and what the various grammatical abbreviations used in it stand for.
The PowerPoint includes the answers to the questionnaire and a series of activities to practise using the dictionary. These include a race to look up words in French and English as well as tips of how to take the context of a word into consideration when choosing the correct translation. A quick plenary response is also provided.

Excellent lesson for the start of the year. Passing it (and the German version) around the MFL dept.

This looks like an excellent introduction to using the dictionary and I am already looking forward to trying it out in September.
