Narrow reading: au collège
This year 7 French resource on the topic of school is inspired by Gianfranco Conti's narrow reading technique. It practises likes and dislikes as well as the names of subjects and other school vocabulary.
Students read four variations of the same text with small differences in each, encouraging them to read the texts closely and reinforcing key language chunks. They then use these chunks to write their own paragraph about school. There is a differentiated version of the writing task where students fill in the gaps.

Je m’appelle Ahmed. Mon école s’appelle le collège Louis-Pasteur. C’est petit et je l’aime bien. Comme matières, j’aime les maths, mais je déteste les sciences. Le prof de maths est sympa, mais je n’aime pas la prof de sciences. Elle est trop sévère. J’adore le français – c’est ma matière préférée. Le français est facile et utile.
