Brilliant, thanks. However, there is a mistake in the order of languages by speakers and I will definitely amend the copy I give to my students. The point I need to make is that we should look at native speakers, just to give an idea of how important to learn another language is. Native English speakers in particular seem to be quite dismissive about the importance of other languages, which translates into an endemic laziness even when being immigrants in another country with a different language. Sadly they do not seem to apply to themselves the same need of integration they expect from immigrants to the UK and tend to form barriers and ghettos abroad. All countries want immigrants to adapt and integrate, and learning the language is essential. With this in mind, 1st Mandarin Chinese (928 Mill), 2nd, Spanish (460), 3rd English (379). Data from 2019.
