Students interpret an original rose diagram devised by Florence Nightingale, complete a gap fill on the difference between radial graphs and rose diagrams, and then consider the appropriate uses and the limitations of each type of graph.

The PowerPoint contains an engaging starter in which students use a series of clues to guess the connection between a photo of Florence Nightingale and the topic of the lesson.

An extract from the answers:

Radial graphs are the same as rose diagrams except that the width of the bar remains equal; this avoids over emphasising larger numbers as in the rose diagram.
