The second resource in a set of three on the Age of Discovery.
In this resource, students are introduced to the major explorers of the 1400s and 1500s:
- Christopher Columbus
- Amerigo Vespucci
- Ferdinand Magellan
- Hernando Cortez
- Francis Drake.
They read a paragraph about Columbus's voyages and consider the impact of the explorers and their discoveries on people, trade, countries, religion and the environment.
The other resources in the set are:
1. Why was there an ‘Age of Discovery'?
3. What does the story of Drake and Diego reveal about the ‘Age of Discovery’?
An extract from the text:
Columbus's voyages are considered some of the most important events in world history, kickstarting modern globalism and resulting in major demographic, commercial, economic, social and political changes. These explorations resulted in the permanent contact between the two hemispheres.
