An extract from the list of consequences:

Debts

Germany was almost bankrupt due to the First World War. German government debts tripled between 1914 and 1918, from 50 billion marks to 150 billion marks.

The new government also had to pay widow pensions to 600,000 widows.

Political revolution

On 9 November 1918, the Kaiser (Wilhelm II) abdicated and left Germany to flee to Holland. The end of the monarchy meant that Germany became a democratic republic called the Weimar Republic.
