A varied series of activities for GCSE or A-level students on Germany in the 1920s.

The resource begins with information retrieval (a mind map). Students then match key events such as the Kellogg–Briand Pack and the Young Plan to the correct descriptions. This activity is supported by fun dual coding icons on the PowerPoint.

They use statistics to write a description of the German economy, complete a source inference grid and then answer a source-based exam practice question.

The exam-style question:

Using the contextual prompts below, write a response to the question: How useful is source A for an enquiry into German society in the 1920s?

  • Writers and poets flourished, especially in Berlin.
  • Bauhaus architecture developed.
  • The 1920s were heralded as a golden age of cinema.
  • Nightclubs became very popular with the young. Over 900 dance bands were set up to play these clubs in Berlin alone.
