Prince Charles, as he was then known, was born at Buckingham Palace on 14 November 1948 during the reign of his grandfather, King George VI.
His full name is Charles Philip Arthur George Mountbatten-Windsor. He is the son of Queen Elizabeth II (who was known as Princess Elizabeth when Prince Charles was born) and her husband, Prince Philip.
