Victorian slang into modern day vocabulary – Grace Darling story
A brilliant activity to build confidence with reading texts that contain unfamiliar vocabulary. Children read a fictional account of the sinking of the SS Forfarshire (the event that shot Grace Darling to fame). They identify the Victorian slang in the account, then try to match it to modern words. The finished word bank can be used as a resource for historical narrative writing.
Suitable for Y5 and Y6.

good resource, builds confidence with unknown and difficult language that they may not have seen before.

Looks great and I am going to use it with my adult learners on a Basic Skills literacy course. Just one thing - "loose" should be "lose" at the end of para 1, but then they can always be tasked with finding the spelling error!
