Student activity

A range of activities to help students to understand different methods of contraception.

There are three tasks for students to complete with different cards. Firstly, they sort different forms of contraception into two groups, hormonal and non-hormonal.

Next, they match key words cards with their definitions. Finally, they consider the efficacy and positive and negative factors associated with four different forms of contraception, using information they are given.

Designed for year 11, AQA Combined Science homeostasis and response but easily adapted to other exam specifications. Includes answers for self- or peer-marking.

An example task from the resource:

Here are paired statements about two types of contraceptives.

  • Working individually to start with, write a list of positive and negative factors for each method of contraception.
  • Next, share this information with a partner.
  • Finally decide together which method is best for women of different ages and circumstances.
