Retrieval
Here you'll find all our reading comprehension resources with a particular focus on retrieval skills.
What are retrieval skills?
Retrieval refers to the reading skill needed to find and record information in non-fiction and fiction texts, using it to answer comprehension questions or summarise key details. This important skill needs to be taught and practised regularly at key stage 1 (and throughout key stage 2) before children can begin to develop their inference skills.

These retrieval activities include worksheets, texts and questions to support younger learners and older children to to find key information to answer retrieval questions, developing this reading comprehension skill.
