Map inspired creative writing

A creative way of getting students to think about setting and progression in their creative writing. A series of scaffolded tasks starting with using a map to create a 'journey', developing through research, images, vocabulary building, planning and editing.

For the research task, it will help if you have access to computers or have prepared and printed off images of the various places on the map for students. You could even adapt the task so that it's based on a map of your local area.

The focus of the narrative writing is to create atmosphere and a vivid setting, building on the preparatory work.

It's lots of fun and gives students plenty of choices.
