A problem-solving task about the 'orangeyness' of different squash mixtures which includes each type of basic ratio question a student could encounter, such as:

  • dividing in a ratio
  • writing and simplifying a ratio
  • finding one value when the other is known. 

Students must find the amount of water, amount of orange, ratio and total amount of squash made with each recipe. Students can also convert the info to an 'orangeyness fraction' to allow comparison. The table on the second slide could be handed out to pupils to help them organise their info if needed.
