Presentation

This detailed lesson on blood glucose concentration and diabetes includes a starter activity, a set of (prior) learning check questions, and a series of tasks to develop students' understanding of the role of the pancreas, insulin, glucagon and glycogen in monitoring and regulating blood glucose concentration.

The PowerPoint lesson includes a range of graphs for students to read alongside exam-style questions (with suggested answers). There's also a video task and a written task to consolidate understanding, as well as plenary activity to revise new keywords.

The accompanying Word document includes teaching notes and detailed answers for teachers.

Lesson objectives from the PowerPoint presentation:

• Describe how insulin lowers blood glucose concentration (and describe how glucagon increases blood glucose concentration HT).

• Explain the causes of and treatments for type I and type II diabetes.

• Evaluate graphs on blood glucose concentration and discuss causal link between obesity and diabetes.

Unfortunately, I think the incorrect Word document has been uploaded because it compares acids and pH not blood glucose concentration.
