This year 7 physics knowledge organiser on forces recaps the key information in the AQA KS3 science syllabus but may also be suitable for other year 7 units on forces.

It is provided in two versions: complete and gapped. The complete version structures key knowledge for students, thus reducing cognitive load, and is designed to be issued at the start of the forces topic. The gapped version tests students' recall of their learning and can be completed for homework.

Background information on types of force is provided in both versions. The main body of the knowledge organiser covers the following points:

  • the relationship between weight, mass and gravitational field strength
  • balanced and unbalanced forces
  • the relationship between speed, distance and time
  • distance-time graphs.

This resource is best printed in A3 format to allow space for students to fill in the missing keywords, units or definitions.

The background information on forces:

You cannot see a force, but often you can see what it does. When a force is exerted on an object, it can change the object’s speed, direction of movement and shape. Forces can be contact forces, where objects must touch each other to exert a force. Other forces are non-contact forces, where objects do not have to touch each other. These include gravity, magnetism and forces due to static electricity.
