Year 8 physics knowledge organiser – forces
Last updated: 15/11/2023
Contributor: Tim Swan
This knowledge organiser on forces for Y8 physics students comes in two versions:
- one with gaps that can be used to test students' recall
- one with answers that can be a) used as feedback on the gapped version, b) handed out as a revision mat or c) issued at the start of the topic as an overview of what students will be learning.
It focuses on the contact forces of friction, drag, tension and compression and on different types of pressure (gas pressure, atmospheric pressure, liquid pressure and fluid pressure).
To allow students plenty of room to write, the gapped knowledge organiser is best printed on A3 paper.
An extract from the section on pressure:
- Upthrust: The upward force that a fluid exerts on a body floating in it.
- Sinking: Objects sink if the weight of the object is bigger than the upthrust.
- Floating: Objects float if the weight of the object is equal to the upthrust.
