KS3-4 students read a short, non-fiction article about the negative effects of excessive gaming. They then complete a series of quick reading comprehension tasks, true/false questions and colour-coding activities to develop their understand of the text and writer's use of techniques for audience and purpose.
Students then plan and write their own short article, presenting a more positive view of gaming, using a helpful scaffolded framework to develop their ideas.
Example tasks from the teaching resource:
Find an example of the following techniques and colour code them:
- rhetorical questions
- references to research/studies
- chatty/informal words and phrases
- statistics
- personal pronouns (like ‘you’)
