Mark all the pomp and ceremony of the new King's coronation with this KS3 factual recount activity.

Students undertake some research on past coronations, choose some key facts to write about and then plan a range of literary techniques to use before writing an 'eyewitness' account of the ceremony.

Includes a planning template to help students with the chronology of the account.

An extract from the lesson resource:

Eye witness account

Imagine you have just witnessed the coronation of King Charles III. Write in the first person and in the past tense, as if you’re looking back on the ceremony at the end of the big day.

Make a list of descriptive writing techniques you can use with examples or include some of the following:

  • Simile
  • Metaphor
  • Imagery
  • Alliteration
  • Sensory details — sights, sounds, smells and feelings.

You can use the template below to plan out your work.
