Opinion chains: The Sign of Four
Ideal as a consolidation task after reading Chapter 1 of The Sign of Four by Arthur Conan Doyle.
GCSE English Literature students work in pairs or groups to complete this activity, which helps to develop their oracy skills by constructing a verbal essay as a class. The PowerPoint resource provides a framework for the activity with some starter sentences to kick-start their analysis of the use of exposition in the first chapter of the novella.
This is a challenging task and is best suited to higher attaining students.
An extract from the PowerPoint slide:
Each pair or group expresses a one sentence opinion with justification [evidence/ reasons] in response to the opinion expressed before.
