Consolidate KS4 English Literature students' understanding of Cecil Day-Lewis' AQA anthology 'Love and relationships' poem 'Walking Away' with this set of questions and writing tasks.

There are eight questions and writing tasks, offering different levels of challenge. Some of the questions deliberately emulate AQA English Language style tasks and the rubric of Paper 1 and 2.

Pick and choose from the tasks and questions or set for homework or revision.

Example questions and tasks from the worksheet:

  1. How has the poet used language to convey the anxiety of the father?
  2. Describe how the poem has been structured to echo the movements of the child.
  3. A student who read this poem said that the narrator is ‘fearful but accepting’ of the change in his role as a parent. How far would you agree with this?
  4. Write the opening to a story in which a father takes his son to school for the first time.

OR

Describe a school playground on the first            day of a new term.
