Health changes over time: The epidemiological transition model and the demographic transition model
Last updated: 15/11/2023
This resource for A-level geography students uses the epidemiological transition model and the demographic transition model to explore how rates of health and disease change over time and vary by country according to a country's level of development.
It builds up to a practice exam question based on a graph of life expectancy changes. There are preparatory tasks where students label graphs with:
- types of disease
- levels of development
- factors such as improving healthcare and improving living conditions.
Answers to the preparatory tasks are provided on the PowerPoint.
The exam-style question from this resource:
Study the graph showing life expectancy between 1950 and 2055 (projected) for five regions in the world.
Explain why some regions have experienced more rapid rates of increase in life expectancy than others.
