This photo card resource is presented in the style of the GCSE AQA German speaking exam (2016 specification) and is perfect for revision or exam practice.

There is one card on the topic of festivals and another on the topic of travel and tourism. The two cards are designed to be used as a peer-assessed speaking task. Students work in pairs, with one student being given photo card A and the other student getting photo card B. They then have five minutes to prepare before testing each other, taking turns to play the role of the examiner. Suitable unprepared questions in a range of tenses are provided, along with sample answers, to enable the student who is assessing to grade their partner using the assessment grid provided.

An extract from one of the student examiner sheets:

3. Welches deutsche Festival möchtest du gern besuchen?

- Reason added, e.g. weil es … ist.

- Additional details, e.g. a festival they don’t want to visit.

4. Wie findest du Karussels?

- Ich finde … nicht gut.

- Reason added, e.g. denn sie sind …

- Additional details, e.g. the opinion of a friend.

5. Welche deutschen Spezialitäten hast du schon gegessen?

- Ich habe … gegessen. (Past tense)

- Opinion added, e.g. es war …

- Additional details, e.g. something they would like to try.
