Practical maths: Cake baking
Last updated: 15/11/2023
Contributor: Claire Woodhouse
One of our series of Practical maths activities, developed during Coronavirus (Covid-19) lockdown, for KS3-4 to get students thinking about the maths involved in everyday home-life activities. They are suitable for all ages and abilities, families can easily get involved and students will produce a diverse selection of work to hand in.
The first part of the task is practical: bake a cake. The second part is to think: what maths is involved in this activity? The third part is to then ponder a range of questions on various topics, including weights, angles, volume, money and symmetry, graded in difficulty.
