A fun starter on the pronunciation of the SSCs [er], [ert], [ère], [erre] and [air].

Students listen to a tongue-twister that contains the five different spellings, think of other words containing those sound-spelling correspondences (with images to help them if they're stuck), and then create their own simple tongue-twisters using pictures as prompts.

They can, of course, try to pronounce the original tongue-twister too, and even record it in their own time, with prizes for the fastest and/or best recordings.

The words practised in this resource:

ver, vert, mer, mère, air, Terre, cher, père, guerre, verre, pierre, désert, dessert, concert, paire, éclair.
