This resource is aimed at the very lowest ability GCSE students – those who are aiming for a grade 1 or grade 2. It is intended to help them prepare for AQA Foundation tier writing question 1 (2016 specification or 2024 specification) using a very limited vocabulary and structure.

The first part consists of a basic copying task, which can be used on more than one occasion as students will need lots of repetition. There is an accompanying PowerPoint of colour photos to illustrate the sentences, or for use with the Edexcel 2024 specification, but you may prefer to concentrate on the sentence copying. No answers are provided as it is just copying.

The second part uses these sentences to describe photos (black and white as per the AQA writing exam). Answers based on the language from first worksheet are included.

An extract from worksheet 1:

Il y a des arbres.   There are some trees.

Copy the French.

.................................................................

Fill in the gaps.

Il y a des ................  .

Il ..........  ........  des arbres.

..........  .........  .........  des arbres.

...........  y a des ............... .

Il ........... a ........... ............... .
