This resource helps students to learn and recall key facts about the savanna grasslands case study using the principles of dual coding and retrieval practice. Each fact is associated with an eye-catching black and white icon, helping to make it memorable. Students are then shown how to link those facts to form a chain of knowledge.

The PowerPoint contains colour images that can be used as a starter, and a list of key terms to check students' understanding. It also presents the facts and models how to connect them.

The Word document contains cut-out revision strips for students to annotate and/or use to test their recall. It also includes exam practice questions and self-assessment grids for the Eduqas B GCSE geography specification, but the rest of the resource will also be useful for AQA and Edexcel A.

Extracts from the resource:

Why are the savanna grasslands under threat?

Deforestation is an issue since it can lead to desertification as wind erosion occurs. Commercial farming has led to monocropping and areas of infertile soil.
