This comprehensive resource can be used for KS3 or KS4. Topics include: collecting like terms, multiplying out brackets, substitution, equations, simple factorisation, trial by improvement, inequalities, FOIL, factorising trinomials and solving simple quadratic equations. Each section has clearly illustrated examples and there is space for workings.

Dip in and out or use as an extended task. Answers are included.

This sample shows the worked examples for expanding single brackets and collecting like terms.

1. 5(2x+4)+3(2x-5)=10x+20+6x-15

2. 6(2x+5)-2(3x-2)=12x+30-6x+4
Remember: (-2)× (-2)= +4

3. 3(4x-1)-5(2x+3)=12x-3-10x-15
Remember: (-5)× (+3)= (-15)
