The resource includes tips, a template and success criteria for three levels of attainment.

Newspaper report-writing tips from the resource:

Each report in a newspaper has a headline. This acts like a title. It quickly gives the reader an idea of what the report is about. Headlines often use humour, rhyme or alliteration for effect.

A good newspaper report will have a summary of the key facts in its first paragraph. This introductory paragraph briefly tells the reader who the report is about, what happened, where it happened and when it happened.

Newspaper reports contain lots of facts. They also sometimes include opinions that people have said to the news reporter during an interview. These opinions are included as quotes in the text and are punctuated as direct speech.
