This resource helps students begin to understand mapping techniques. Students follow a mile route from either their home or school mapping and noting down areas of interest. They then present it in an interesting visual way, they could use an online mapping tool or create their own sketch.

This could possibly be completed as a class fieldwork activity with students working in pairs to explore an area, or used as a homework task or as a holiday competition.

It will be great to have the children do a field work round the school and produce a map of the school community.
