How can I measure changes in environmental quality across an urban area?
This skills based resource introduces students to the techniques used to investigate an urban transects environmental quality using bipolar scales. Students begin by completing a photo analysis task where they answer six questions about a particular image. They then use images of six areas of Wolverhampton to complete bi-polar surveys of the environmental quality. They should present the data in an appropriate way and evaluate its usefulness. This could be easily adapted to any town or city.
Included are teaching notes with suggested responses, a differentiated worksheet and possible extension opportunities.
