This resource features ideas for discussions and activities about a class reader. It's broken down into suggestions for before, during and after reading and the ideas are suitable for KS1 or KS2.

It aims to help develop children's reading fluency and comprehension skills and foster a love of reading for pleasure.

An extract from the resource:

After reading:

  1. Ask the children which character they would most like to be/least like to be. Why? At what point in the story did they decide this?
  2. Re-tell key events of the story from a different character’s point of view.
  3. Write a letter, text or email from one character to another.
  4. Create a piece of role-play and/or playscript based on:
  • a key scene in the book
  • a meeting between two characters who have never met in the book
  • a meeting between two characters in the future.
  1. Write an alternative ending for the story or another short chapter.
  2. Make a poster for a film of the book.
